Dangerous Pharmaceutical Drugs
Our personal injury claims and injury lawyers are able to utilize their medical background as well as their trial lawyer experience, in pursuit of settlements on behalf of those who have been injured from dangerous pharmaceutical drugs. On occasion, pharmaceutical products have been in use for many years before they are pulled off the market, or are provided with different dosing information or warning labels. The following pharmaceutical drugs have had personal injury and product liability issues:
Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra - Researchers called for a strongly worded "black box" warning on all COX-2 inhibitors, warning of potential cardiovascular risks. Vioxx, manufactured by Merck, was taken off the market in 2004, as was Bextra, manufactured by Pfizer. Celebrex continues to be sold. All of these drugs, when taken as prescribed, show evidence of an increased incidence of heart attack or stroke.
Paxil - Much of the controversy surrounding the Paxil side effects centers on the fact that the manufacturers of Paxil, GlaxoSmithKline, deliberately failed to warn patients and physicians of many Paxil side effects, including the drugs addictive nature, and the potential withdrawal reactions.
Zyprexa - Most concerning have been recent studies showing there might be a correlation between a newer anti-psychotics class, which includes Zyprexa and diabetes. The possible risk of this serious addition to the Zyprexa side effects list may affect the future of Zyprexa. So far, the Zyprexa side effects leading to diabetes related death has taken the lives of 23 Zyprexa patients.
Ephedra - Ephedra is a naturally occurring substance found in plants that has powerful stimulant effects on the nervous system and heart. It was commonly used in dietary supplements such as Metabolife and Herbalife, until it was banned in 2004 because it was linked with hundreds of adverse health effects, including heart attack, stroke and seizures.
Fen Phen - Fen phen was a combination drug mixture of Pondimin or Redux with phentermine (an amphetamine-like drug) and was designed to promote weight loss. It was withdrawn from the market in September of 1997 when it was linked to the occurrence of serious cardiac valvular disease, and primary pulmonary hypertension.
Our personal injury claims attorneys have extensive experience in representing individuals who have been injured by exposure to toxic and other dangerous substances, including asbestos, chemicals, hazardous waste, medical products and devices, pesticides and pharmaceutical products. Our injury lawyers represent clients in the attempt to recover monetary damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and punitive damages, where appropriate, individually or as part of a class action, where appropriate.
A wrongful death lawsuit alleges that the decedent was killed as a result of the negligence (or other liability) on the part of the defendant, and that the surviving dependents or beneficiaries are entitled to monetary damages as a result of the defendant's conduct. A wrongful death lawsuit offers compensation for the following:
- Immediate expenses associated with the death (medical and funeral)
- Loss of victim's anticipated earnings in the future until time of retirement or death
