1. Umbilical cord issues
The umbilical cord is a baby’s lifeline inside the womb. It provides nutrients to the growing child, while at the same time removing waste and toxicity from the uterus. If at any time during pregnancy or delivery a problem with the umbilical cord surfaces, doctors should move quickly to resolve it. An issue with the cord during labor can cause the baby to suffer oxygen loss before delivery. Brain damage may result because of this hindrance.
2. Missed diagnosis
A newborn baby’s body can withstand the expected rigors of labor and delivery, but the immune system is a different story. One of the leading causes of a newborn’s death is a doctor’s failure to diagnose bacterial meningitis shortly after birth. Failing to diagnose and treat jaundice for too long can also cause a buildup of waste inside a newborn, causing significant sepsis and possible death.
3. Waiting too long to intervene
Some mothers have a birth plan, while others choose to wing it. Regardless, a C-section is rarely part of the idea. However, there are times when it is necessary due to an issue with labor and delivery. If a doctor waits too long to perform a C-section, the baby may suffer irreversible damage.
