Sean A. McConnell, A Top Medical Malpractice Attorney In Texas

“All of my clients have suffered a tragedy, but none of them ever give up. I channel that bravery and grit and fight hard to get my clients justice.”
– Sean A. McConnell
Sean and his wife Cynthia chose to make Austin home because they wanted to build a life together and raise a family in a city that values community, connection, and opportunity. Austin already held a special place in Cynthia’s life — she was born there, her father attended The University of Texas at Austin, and her parents built their life and raised their family in the city, creating deep roots in the Austin community that span generations. Sean was drawn to Austin’s welcoming spirit, growing legal community, and “small big-city” feel.
Although Sean now proudly calls Austin home, his story began in a blue-collar neighborhood in Staten Island, New York, where he learned the value of hard work, honesty, and standing up for others. His father was a tenants’ rights lawyer and his mother worked as a visiting nurse, both dedicating their careers to helping people during difficult times. Those early lessons shaped Sean’s approach to the law and to his clients.
Sean attended Catholic schools growing up, where he developed a strong sense of discipline, faith, and service to others. He later attended The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., graduating Magna Cum Laude and earning induction into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society for academic achievement. During college, Sean worked with organizations focused on social justice and education access, experiences that strengthened his desire to help people through meaningful work.
While attending Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City, Sean focused his legal training on protecting workers and advocating for everyday people. He worked for a labor union during law school and later earned a spot in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Prosecutor’s Practicum, a highly selective internship program.
Sean graduated from law school in 2009 during the height of the financial crisis. Like many young attorneys at the time, he faced challenges finding work, but he stayed determined and continued gaining experience wherever he could. That persistence led to a clerkship with New York Supreme Court Judge Joan B. Lobis, where Sean handled complex medical malpractice matters and developed a deep understanding of both medicine and the law.
Sean later joined a respected plaintiff’s personal injury firm in Manhattan, focusing on medical malpractice and catastrophic injury cases. One of the defining moments of his career came when he joined the trial team representing firefighters and families in the landmark Black Sunday Fire litigation – a case that resulted in one of the largest personal injury verdicts in New York history.
In 2018, Sean and Cynthia made the decision to move to Austin and start a new chapter. After working at a growing Texas personal injury firm, Sean met attorney Jay Harvey, who became both a mentor and close friend. Since then, Sean has focused his practice on representing individuals and families in serious personal injury and medical malpractice cases throughout Texas.

Sean is licensed in both Texas and New York and has handled cases involving medical malpractice, wrongful death, trucking and auto accidents, and product liability. He has recovered significant settlements and verdicts for his clients and is known for combining thorough preparation with a compassionate, down-to-earth approach.
Sean has been recognized as a “Top 40 Under 40” attorney by The National Trial Lawyers and has been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers.
He is also active in the legal community through organizations such as the Austin Young Lawyers Association and as a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
